Celebrated photographer Martin Parr began his career in Manchester, studying at the Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University) from 1970–1973.
He has revisited the city many times over the last 45 years. Ranging from black and white images of Prestwich Mental Hospital (now Prestwich Hospital) in 1972 and Yates's Wine Lodges in 1982–1983, to colour pictures of people shopping in 1986 and the Guardian Cities Project in 2008, this book brings together Parr's photographs of Manchester.
A new commission brings this work up to date – a portrait of the diverse, inclusive and multicultural city and its people in 2018.
