a little about Kyra Mihailovic in our GNCCF showcase
‘Nothing beautiful unless useful’ has been a bit of a buzz phrase at the gallery in recent years and I think ceramicist Kyra Mihailovic’s works echo that sentiment - being both beautiful and designed to bring pleasure when used.
Kyra’s ceramic pieces are hand thrown in stoneware and porcelain, and then taking inspiration from the form are decorated using ceramic colours. There is a real freshness to the work with a contrast of bold colour against the unglazed surface which contrasts again with the finish of the glazed interior.
The bold contrast and impossibility of being both traditional and contemporary is what I love about Kyra’s ceramic pieces. So tactile in form and texture you can’t help but want to pick them up.
