“My landscapes are an amalgamation of places I’ve been to and capture my own sense of self reflection and the need to stand back, reflect and take a breath, which is something everyone has been forced to do over the previous months. They also come from a place of personal trauma and reflect the space and solitude my mind often craves. Although drawn from reality the landscapes I paint are not quite real. They reflect the unreality of our reality. Life is strange and uncertain.
The stillness and nature within the paintings reflect the timeless resilience of the world. When a figure is included I want to portray my own resilience and also my place as a natural being - as much a part of nature as the trees, water and rocks. I’m grasping to find my own placement in the world. I want to be part of this world but also sheltered from it.”
