Pinched, coiled, paddled, Kat Evans’ ceramic sculptures are formed with rhythm and joy. Defined edges and generous contours slowly emerge from the clay. Gently burnished, the surface becomes a perfectly smooth canvas for an intentional smoke firing. Surrendered to fire, time stops.

The porous surfaces record a memory of materials collected and received. The pieces that survive are carefully cleaned and polished.

These intimate pieces are made to be held. In a breathless world, these ambiguous objects present a connection and a pause.

Dimensions: 17 x 11 x 10 cm

Kat Evans creates tactile ceramic sculptures that speak of the processes that made them. Her ambiguous, and yet intimate, smoke fired objects have been shown at Thrown Gallery (London), Salone del Mobile (Milan) and Napé Gallery (Venice). Work has been purchased by collectors in New Zealand, France and Canada, and interior designers in Paris, Miami and Milan.

Kat freelances for British Ceramics Biennial as Health and Development Manager. Across her practice, Kat is interested in the value of process, the rhythm of time spent making, and the traces of work and action. She enjoys collaborating with filmmakers, photographers and other craftspeople to explore these themes.

Community-taught, Kat has developed her practice in shared studios in London, Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester. Informed by Richard Sennett’s ideas on cooperation, Kat believes in the benefits of sharing equipment, ideas and space with others. She is currently a member of the Manchester Ceramics Collective and works from Studio 65 in Old Trafford.
