"Manchester is a very special place. Many of the buildings I paint act as symbols for the memories of my time, living in the city. The people of Manchester aren’t often seen in my paintings but they inspire and energise my work, contributing to my playful style and love of vibrant colour. When I paint, I hope to portray life within the architecture. Each structure holds a new story, a memory to be kept.
My process starts by building the canvas and I use watercolour to create shape and form. I use lots of different tools to apply acrylic ink for the detail. The canvas is then housed in a bespoke hand made open frame which is coated in a Farrow and Ball paint (Downpipe). I opt to keep the image in an open frame as I like to see the texture and marks created. To preserve the image I use an Archival Matte Varnish."
